FAQs
Will I learn the skills I need to pass the DMV drive test?
Yes! But more importantly, while you're mastering the drive test skills, you'll also be preparing for a lifetime of safe and confident defensive driving.
Where will I take my lessons?
Your instructor will pick you up and drop you off at your home or other previously arranged
location..
When can I start behind-the-wheel driver training?
You can start taking driving lessons once you are 15 1/2 and have completed or are enrolled in a driver training course. For more information, check the current DMV handbook or go to www.dmv.ca.gov.
What is the cost for the 6 hour certification training I need to get my license?
Ann's 6-hour behind-the-wheel training is $675. Price quoted for pick up and drop-off in the San Francisco area; out of area pricing may be higher. Prices are subject to change. See the Price page for additional information.
What is a lesson like?
Our behind-the-wheel driving lessons are intense individualized coaching sessions. You'll be engaged with your personal instructor throughout the session. At times you will be asked to make a running commentary, a verbal description of driving conditions and the factors affecting your decisions.
What are your cars like?
Your instructor will pick you up in a normal -looking car - no embarrassing signs or stickers! The only difference will be a dual set of controls (brake and accelerator) on the right-hand-side so that your instructor can take control of the car if necessary.
What will the lesson cover?
Your lessons will cover the basics of driving in all kinds of real life situations such as: freeways,
city traffic, residential neighborhoods, hills, intersections and one-way streets.
How do I pay?
You can pay two ways:
1) Pay in Advance - you or your parents mail a check for the total amount of your lessons (i.e., $675 for the 6-hour learn-to-drive package)
2) Pay for each Lesson - you pay your instructor $225 at the beginning of each two-hour session.
Will I start driving right away?
You'll start driving right after a quick orientation and assessment. Your ability to take control will
depend on your readiness and previous driving experience (if any). Throughout the lesson, your
instructor is there as a safety net so you'll be safe as you make the mistakes that are part of the early learning process.
What should I bring?
You need to bring your driving permit and your payment for the lesson (unless you've paid in
advance). You'll need to wear closed shoes - that is no sandals or open-toed shoes.
Do I need proof of insurance?
While you're driving our vehicle, you'll be covered by our insurance. If you take the drive test in our car, we'll provide you with the necessary insurance and registration documents.
